Awkward Moment’s Day!

Awkward moments day

Life is filled with some seriously, embarrassing awkward moments. Whether it be tripping up the stairs on your graduation day, having your skirt tucked into your knickers after popping to the loo, or getting stuck in the tube doors in rush hour, the shame of an awkward moment is something that can stay with us forever. So Sarah thought she would share one of her most memorable, awkward moments, which just so happened to be on live TV #Awks!

‘The picture above was a seriously awkward moment that just so happened when I was presenting on Create & Craft TV a few years ago with Howard, it was a Christmas time show, we were having fun and he said something that tickled me and I just couldn’t stop laughing, I was crying and they cut to a break while I caught my breath but I had mascara all down my face like Alice Cooper for the rest of the show – hilarious!’

Let us know some of your seriously awkward moments by dropping us a comment below, getting in touch via Twitter or Facebook, we can’t wait to hear your stories.

Thanks for stopping by today!

International Women’s Day 2017

Kalixa Spirit of Small Business Awards 2014, presented by Michelle Mone

Happy International Women’s Day 2017!

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the successes of women from all over the world and in all areas of society. As a female leader, I have a responsibility to lend my voice to those who may feel they don’t have one, or who are still finding theirs. Speaking up creates a support network of female leaders, challenging inequality and gender bias.

Here at the company I founded,  Sarah Hurley Ltd, we encourage female talent, building a strong community of inclusiveness and support, encouraging everyone to work towards their goals while feeling valued for their ability and contribution. We are building a career path for our future leaders who will join me on the journey to build our company, and our voice, globally.

Your gender should never be a barrier to creating your own vision of success, it is our differences that make us. As a company director, public speaker, TV personality and board member of a trade association, I personally mentor and support women in achieving their ambitions and celebrating their achievements.

Here at Sarah Hurley, we pledge to:

  • Create New Opportunities for Women
  • Challenge Gender Bias & Inequality
  • Call out when women are excluded
  • Challenge Stereotypes
  • Recognise and celebrate female success – when you celebrate your success, it gives other women the courage to speak out about their own!
  • Encourage more girls to think about their own future success

Take some time today to celebrate your success and that of other strong women around you. All too often, women are pitted against each other as if we have to fight each other or step over each other to get what we want, that’s simply not the case. Stay true to your vision of success, support other strong women around you and build your female networks. The empowerment of women also doesn’t mean men are anything less. Strong men support strong women to create a better world for us all. The empowerment of women and the advancement of gender parity makes us all more successful – together we are stronger.

Thank you for dropping by this International Women’s Day!

2016 in Review

15741050_10158065978290381_5304132840621980358_n

Over on Instagram people have been sharing their best nine pictures, I thought it was a great way to share a wrap up of 2016 with you all so here it is…

In 2016… we rebranded, opened our second UK office and expanded it, doubled our (fantastic!) team, opened our first international office in the USA, I visited LA (lots! Whoop! 🎉) Hawaii (amazing!!) and Germany before travelling around U.K., USA and Europe on a sellout speaking tour telling the story of starting my business with £40 and growing it to a seven figure company in 5 years, that ended with my own Sarah Hurley LIVE! event here in my home town and people came from literally all over the world to see us and hear my story – I was so blown away!

We launched a book club and around 500 new products and sent out thousands of orders all over the world. We partnered with Lean In and I became a partner ambassador for NOTHS and an Ambassador and co-presenter for Create & Craft TV. We hosted a fantastic CHA-UK event – I was a dragon on the Creative Dragons panel meeting lots of wonderful entrepreneurs.

I wrote, published and launched my first children’s novel at the Licensing show in London and spent time behind the camera (for a change!) at Pinewood and in studios in LA learning about TV production and screenwriting for my own TV project.

I also drunk a huge amount of tea, bought a ridiculous amount of stationery, discovered Snapchat (mostly after too many wines, oooops!) and dealt with crazy anxiety, massive highs and crashing lows. I learned about true love and true friendship and came out of the year stronger which is really all you can ask for.

This was actually the first New Years Eve I didn’t cry for a long LONG time because usually I sob like a baby at the end of the year and feel terrible thinking I haven’t achieved nearly enough that year. But this year, I wasn’t sorry to see the back of the year, I’m ready for a new one! and I feel like I actually achieved something – yay!

I hope you all had a fantastic New Year and don’t have too much of a sore head this morning. Today I’m spending my last day in my little cosy Christmas bubble with B and Fuzzybutt before we get back to work tomorrow planning, organising and getting ready for the year ahead, I hope its a fantastic one for everyone!

Sarah Hurley LIVE! Event Round-Up!

sarah-hurley-live-2016

Today, I wanted to share with you all about our first Sarah Hurley LIVE! event last week. This was a BIG thing for me, previously I’ve organised lots of events for CHA-UK but this was the first one just for me and completely by myself (I have Craig to help me with CHA-UK things!) I’m SO lucky that my team were on the ball and helped so much (BIG thanks Team Hurley!)

sarah-hurley-live-goody-bags

With goody bags packed, programs printed, food collected, balloons blown up and cars loaded, I don’t think any of us slept the night before. This was a massive task for Team Hurley and we knew we had just 2 hours to set up on the morning of the event. Craig did kindly come to help and the seven of us plugged away, greeting our first guests a little early at 9am. B’s mum had come to help and she got the kettle on and started people off chatting!

We started with a panel discussion, myself, Kirstie from my team, Craig from CHA-UK and one of our lovely sponsors, Natalie O’Shea from Stampin’ Up spoke about our careers in a creative industry, the different things we had tried, where to get help and opportunities available. At the end we took questions from the audience. We then moved on to an announcement about our Lean In partnership and our SPARK! programme (everyone that attended got a free place worth around £650!!) We then welcomed to the stage another of our sponsors, Jenny from PA Angels and the Business Womens Network. Jenny spoke about getting organised and gave us all a super handy to do list pad before telling us about the Business Womens Network here in Essex.

I then moved on to tell my story, this was pretty nerve wracking for me as I’d only ever done this once before in the USA earlier this year. Everyone was so lovely and made me feel very comfortable though which was nice. After that, my last talk of the day was the 25 Mad, bad & Crazy Hilarious things that have happened to me in business… This one provoked a LOT of discussion and it was fun (in some cases!) to relive those moments and make everyone realise they aren’t alone when crazy stuff like this happens! (Just for anyone that may be worried they featured in this talk, this was a bit of fun and sharing and not about ‘calling out’ anyones bad behaviour, especially those long in the past. No names were mentioned, and won’t be, neither were they confirmed in the instances where people guessed)

After a chatty lunch and plenty of tea and coffee, expertly made by B and his mum, and networking, it was time for demos! Shabneez and Karen done a marvellous job. Shabneez created beautiful Ferrero Rocher Poinsettias while Karen worked her wonders creating gift tags with my Doodle Doll stamps. There was time for everyone to do some shopping too and chat with my lovely team who looked after everyone trying to find their perfect crafty purchase or Christmas gift. During this time I was able to catch up with my mentoring session winners and it was fantastic to hear their goals, I gave lots of advice and promised a catch up in a couple of weeks – SO excited to see how these ladies develop their plans over the next 12 months!!

Towards the end of the day as the demos wound down, we held a couple of raffles to win some of our Book Club book picks and some fabulous Stampin’ Up goodies from Natalie and I told our audience about an opportunity we created just for them which was So well received, I can’t wait to hear from some of you about that!! Then, we all indulged in my inexpertly decorated (but still delicious!! and GOLD with STARS!) cake and some prosecco.

I was so thrilled to chat to everyone over the course of the day and it was great to catch up with some crafty friends and make some new ones! As everyone left I made sure to give them all a massive hug to thank them for coming, it was SUCH a fantastic day and as we packed away and took everything back we were still buzzing. We held a little after party in my local pub afterwards and some of my friends bought me chocolates and flowers. It was an AMAZING day and I’m still enjoying reading everyones blog posts and seeing the pics pop up on social media (please do use the hashtag #sarahhurleylive or tag me in if you share some!) and leave your blog links below, I can’t wait to see!

Loti has also posted about her visit here on her blog, I hope you’ll pop over to have a look!

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone that attended and enjoyed the day with us, our lovely sponsors, CHA-UK, Natalie O’Shea at Stampin’ Up, PA Angels, The Business Womens Network and BeeBees Boutique and of course, to my fantastic team!

Thank you for dropping by today!
