#GirlBoss: Book Club Update

We’re half way through our latest book club read #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso and we’d love to update you all with our thoughts so far!

Chloe

When we decided to read #GirlBoss as part of our Sarah Hurley Book Club I was slightly hesitant. Firstly I’m not really into business style books so kind of dreaded the thought of reading this one and secondly I had no idea who Sophia Amoruso was.

After reading the first page I already knew a lot about Amoruso! Her challenging and at times rebellious upbringing hooked me from the start, as I was intrigued to see how she had managed to create a multi-million dollar business. Now that I am half way through, I find the book interesting and as someone who is not business minded in any way it has inspired me to get into my hobbies a little more, but other than that I am not loving this book.

Sophia’s story really is inspiring and it is interesting to read, and the way that she has written the book is great as you feel like she is telling you the story one on one. I am getting useful, empowering bits of information so in that sense it is a good read!

Hopefully by the end I will love this book, but I’m not quite sure that’s going to happen just yet.

As you can probably guess from Chloe’s review, this book was my choice! I do love a good business related book and it was great to throw one into our book club mix.

Sophia’s story is definitely an interesting one, coming from nothing to build her huge clothing brand, making the most of social media and the struggle to work as many hours possible to take you over that tipping point to be able to grow the business with staff etc… are all things I completely relate to.

The book is written very much as I can imagine her speaking, a bit sweary, a bit sarcastic, funny and open, this reads like having a chat with someone telling you their story one on one which I really like. This isn’t a business ‘how to’ but more of a memoir of someone who has been there, done that and has a few war stories to tell about the journey.

I’m about halfway through right now which for me is the interesting part as I know the brand she has today, I’ve read the start and the middle is what i’m about to discover – we’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for dropping by today. If you’re reading along with us, or have read #GirlBoss before, drop us a comment below and let us know your thoughts on the book!
